2005'S TOP 50 SEARCH ENGINES

2004'S TOP 50 SEARCH ENGINES

NOTICE OUR 2006 NOTE ATOP THESE

4/5/2006 - In preparations for the audit 4/15/06, we must address Google as the number one search engine now.

We will for the third calendar year generate the top 50 US search engines list, but let's put this out on the table now; with a new emphasis that proves Google is now the number one US search engine for all but one ranking area - total visits.

In other words, Yahoo is now getting more overall visits however Google visitors are there for the purpose of search, much more often than those at Yahoo.  More people visit Yahoo for other purposes including email, than Google.  Seventy Five (75) percent of the visits to Google are for search purposes only.  Yahoo has more internet users that log on to yahoo.com than Google gets of internet users that log on to google.com but Yahoo users are doing the following which is directly from www.alexa.com :

  • mail.yahoo.com - 53%
  • search.yahoo.com - 9%
  • news.yahoo.com - 3%
  • login.yahoo.com - 3%
  • bid.yahoo.com - 2%
  • yahoo.com - 2%
  • finance.yahoo.com - 2%
  • auctions.yahoo.com - 1%
  • groups.yahoo.com - 1%
  • sports.yahoo.com - 1%
  • store.yahoo.com - 1%
  • my.yahoo.com - 1%
  • messages.yahoo.com - 1%
  • photos.yahoo.com - 1%
  • kids.yahoo.com - 1%
  • personals.yahoo.com - 1%
  • games.yahoo.com - 1%
  • knowledge.yahoo.com - 1%
  • profiles.yahoo.com - 1%
  • music.yahoo.com - 1%
  • stock.yahoo.com - 1%
  • movies.yahoo.com - 1%
  • club.yahoo.com - 1%
  • fantasysports.yahoo.com - 1%
  • Other websites - 9%

Google users are there for the following purposes:

  • google.com - 75%
  • images.google.com - 9%
  • mail.google.com - 8%
  • groups.google.com - 2%
  • video.google.com - 2%
  • news.google.com - 1%
  • froogle.google.com - 1%
  • Other websites - 2%

* - 2006 Note: We always have listed Yahoo as the number one search engine, and this year we stand corrected.  In other people's words, over the past years, we have heard that the reason for these totals was the fact that the Google users were more often going for search purposes and it's true - 53 percent go to Yahoo for mail, 9 go to search.yahoo.com and 2 percent are searching straight Yahoo.com (? somebody please Email us how this works, in your words) .  So we must retract what we've said in the past years of 2004 and 2005 with our Top 50 US Search Engines and put Google number one because of this glaring fact; with 75 percent going to Google, the second visited site and search engine, for search purposes, and 11 percent (cumulatively) going to Yahoo, the most visited site and search engine, Google is clearly winning by almost seven lengths!

The other engines are included below, those who did not rank included.  The rank, out of all sites on the world wide web is to the right.  'Very interesting!
